From its inception as the Marriage Guidance Council in 1973, the organisation has grown, evolved and diversified to become Relationships Australia NT as it is known today.
The Marriage Guidance Council was funded by the Cyclone Tracy Relief for Darwin and the Betting Control Board funds. The original Council solely provided marriage counselling, with only three staff members; a director, a staff counsellor and a secretary who collectively provided services to the greater Darwin area.
In 1988 the Marriage Guidance Council had employed a counsellor in Alice Springs and further five staff. By 1993, the total staff had grown to eight.
February, 1995, marks the change from the Marriage Guidance Council to officially operating under the banner of Relationships Australia Northern Territory Inc. In the 45 years that Relationships Australia NT has been operating it has undergone significant growth and diversification to service the needs of its Territory clients.
